Just ask dumb questions for the sake of progress.

Stop pretending you understand everything.

I make it a point to ask the dumbest questions in every meeting.

Not because I lack knowledge but because most meetings suffer from what I call Silent Meeting Syndrome:

• Everyone nods along • No one asks the basics • Complex issues get glossed over • Real understanding never happens

And here’s why “dumb” questions actually win:

  1. The Clarity Test They force simple explanations, prevent assumptions and get everyone actually aligned.

  2. The Permission Effect When one person asks a basic question, others feel safe to do the same and real dialogue starts.

  3. The Assumption Killer They unearth hidden beliefs, challenge the status quo, and expose blind spots.

  4. The Innovation Trigger They spark creative thinking, open fresh perspectives, and break stale mental models.

In investor meetings, I don’t shy away from basic questions, I lead with them.

The result?

Deeper understanding. Better decisions. Stronger relationships.

Your “dumb” question is probably someone else’s burning curiosity.

No question is truly dumb if it leads to greater understanding.
