Is it the failure of AI hitting a wall, or is it rather from us having no ideas about what to do with much better models?
I worry that the failure of AI will not come from deep learning hitting a wall, but rather from us having no ideas about what to do with much better models. I can see a scenario where we get GPT-5, o2, Llama-4 etc. next year and almost nothing will change. Not because the models are bad, but that we can't think of anything useful to do with them.
The sense I get is that our organisations are generally not set up from benefiting from higher intelligence. Exceptions perhaps are academia, research labs, high growth tech or some areas like investment banking, where a single intelligent person can make a huge difference.
Apart from those in 99% of businesses, we create processes where an intelligence of each individual person in the chain helps, but the benefit is capped - because we've built our organisations in a factory-like way where the downside or upside of a terrible/excellent individual is minimised.
Perhaps in the future, the way that start-ups need to be organised is not in factory-like units where you have to work hard to slot in bits of intelligence. But rather into some structures that inherently thrive on higher and higher levels of intelligence.
